So who am I? I studied music at the Royal College of Music in the 80´s and graduated as a classical musician. I´ve had a varied route to where I am today, but suffice it to say that I´ve found myself and get more fulfillment, musically, doing what I do today than I have ever found so far! My experience in music ranges from working as an orchestral musician (playing the horn) to working backstage at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden to Primary School teaching and beyond. I´ve always loved rock and pop and had an inkling that this is the area where I should be working. So here I am...
The act, ‘Just Jools’, came about as a one man piano and song act through a mixture of bookings after moving to Germany. The repertoire I cover comprises hits from the 60’s to the present day, songs I have composed myself and anything else that takes my fancy. Whilst I spend a lot of time providing tasteful background music to dinners and the like, you´ll also often find me singing songs from shows like the Rocky Horror show or hammering the keys to a large selection of Irish songs. Along the way I´ve picked up memberships to the Guild of International Songwriters & Composers and GEMA. I have played in a fair number of Irish pubs and other venues but the demand for private bookings is getting so great that I have cut back on these bookings. You can still see a few of the open gigs I do, however, on my gig list. Other credits include Welle Niederrhein Radio, the 2006 Southport International Jazz Festival, military venues in the UK and Germany (such as the RAF Club in London and larger camps), a large range of hotels in the Niederrhein area and a variety of festivals and events. You can read a general description of the Jazz Festival on this site. My style has been described as “popular cover music to a chilled out groove” and that probably fits. The latest addition to my portfolio is "Rock It Man", an Elton John tribute act. I also offer tuition and perform with Noel James as half of the Gospel duo JoolsNoelGospel.
